Peacebuilding in an Unstable World.

Wesley’s Chapel, 49 City Road, London EC1Y. AGM and Meeting held by Uniting for Peace (a joint Action for UN Renewal and World Disarmament Campaign meeting). Peace is a prerequisite for building a safer society which can live in harmony. We live in an interconnected and interdependent world. Violence and wars have to be consigned to history for humankind to make progress for a peaceful future. Speakers include John Jacob English (Free University of Ireland and author of ‘Collapse of the War System’) and Jeremy Corbyn MP. Chaired by Lord Peter Archer of Sandwell. Contributions also from Vijay Mehta, and Brian Cooper. Speakers will explore the above challenges and find solutions in promoting a culture of peace and non-violence for peace building in an unstable world. Meeting from 10.30-5.00pm. Defending Rights of the Child and building a Safer Future for Children.

Meeting from 6.00 - 9.00pm. Human Rights Action Centre, 17-25 New Inn Yard, London, EC2 3EA (tube: Old Street Station). Speakers include Kema Rajandran, Vijay Mehta, Marianne Malky, Thana Narashiman, Herb Mallard, Hamid Kamali-Shervadani, Kathy Hill, Camila Batmanghelidjh, John Paul Flintoff  and Dr Raymond Mills-Johnson. Please join us in an open discussion on escalating knife crimes, child soldiers, human trafficking, abductions and kidnapping which is increasing the cycle of violence, exploitation and abuse of children on an unprecedented scale. The meeting will explore ways in which flow of abductions, and organized crime can be stopped. The rights of children which have been promised under the UN Convention should be defended and made a reality for all vulnerable children of the world. This is a FREE public meeting. Inequality and Millennium Development Goals.

Meeting held by Uniting for Peace (a joint Action for UN Renewal and World Disarmament Campaign meeting).Keynote speaker: Sir Richard Jolly (former under-Secretary General for United Nations). Meeting from 6.30-8.30pm, at Friends House, Euston Road, London NW1 2BJ. Progress towards the MDGs is slipping away according to the Millennium Development Goals Report 2009. Extreme poverty remains a daily reality for more than 1 billion people who live on less than $1 a day. The completion of the MDGs slips away everyday as other issues, like the global financial crisis, and climate change take centre stage. Sir Richard Jolly, will examine the above challenges and will bring forth strategies and solutions for the successful outcome of the MDGs for the benefit of the poorest people of the world.
